Young Women Taffy Pull

“A taffy pull would be so much fun!”
We planned it, announced it, we got the job done.
Hung up the hook, invited everyone,
Helped spread the word, and then it begun.

Sweet smelling flavors, spearmint and cherry,
My mouth is watering, give me some –Hurry!
We ate every piece that was damaged or dirty,
Each batch there was perfect, never to worry.

We pulled and we pulled, added colors and stripes,
We tasted and sampled. This stuff is alright.
There were giggles and squeals and screams of delight,
Then a puff of corn starch, now these girls are all white.

Flurries of dust in the air, in the curls,
Dust on the faces of every girl,
Then a pat on the back, a friendly white twirl,
That plentiful powder again starts to swirl.

The leaders all worry that parents will frown,
Don’t worry, Moms, we won’t let you down.
Your girls will learn skills more than any around,
They’ll come home improved… inside, anyhow.

Just stand them outside and turn on the hoses.
Don’t let them inside till they’ve cleaned those cute noses…
And hair… and shoes…and knees… and toeses...
And shook all the mess off those once-fancy clothes-es.

Parents now tremble with trepidation,
Soon are youth conference and camp destinations.
All moms and dads will proceed now with caution,
When activities for youth involve Sister Preston.
