Plant Problems

Sunday afternoon the kids were playing in the backyard and Bekah started chopping away at the lower branches of this plant and playing with them.  There was a really “cool” milkweed substance that came out of the stems.  Soon her eyes started to sting and her skin was feeling sore and tender.  By morning, she had a rash on her cheeks.  I asked around at a local nursery and they identified it as “pencil euphorbia” in the same family as poinsettias.  When I googled it at home, the descriptions listed stories of terrible things that happened to people who had come into contact with it!  I had no idea how poisonous it was!  The bush was removed the next day.  Bekah’s face is healing but we don’t want to deal with that -or worse- again.
